This came off a damaged York & Lancs Regiment Bi-metal Cap Badge, long since moved on as a damaged item and I failed to notice at the time that the detached slider has stamped on the inside (unusual in itself) - Stratton Birmingham. A solid non-voided version of the regular cap badge, a very indistinct striking in bronzy / coppery finish, which looks cheap and poorly struck, but has its loops correctly located e-w and at the very edge of the badge. Scarce 1914 1st Pattern Tyneside Scottish Other Rank's Glengarry Cap Badge
The design for this badge was not fixed until late November 1914 by the Tyneside Scottish Committee, and was replaced by the more imposing 2nd pattern badge in January 1915. Many of the original cap badges were converted to pin fittings. They were issued to the original volunteers to the 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd Battalion Tyneside Scottish quartered in Alnwick, Northumberland.
