RCI (Royal Corps of Invalids) Royal Hospital Chelsea Large Pattern Victorian Brass Button

Circa 26mm in diameter, floating shanked and maker marked DOLAN & Co ST MARTINS LANE LONDON (Military clothing retailer 1835-1888 at the St Martins Lane address). Gilt 50% remaining and the button is of a semi-flat style rather than high domed.

Each red pensioner uniform had and has nine brass buttons (now anodised). Even today their buttons display the relevant monarch's crown...  read more

A stunning and scarce button worn by this all white volunteer unit, fixed shank, circa 22mm in diameter, reverse states " Extra Superb " - says it all really! Some minor wear to gilt.
