A die cast bronze example polished back to the brass with two original loops to the reverse and maker marked JR Gaunt London.

The Army Remount Department was formed in circa 1875 at Soharanpur but badges were not authorised until 1931 (Indian Dress Regulations 1931 para 179).

Formed in 1911 as part of the New Zealand Engineers. Worn until 1921 when they were formed into the New Zealand Corps of Signals.

In this instance the white background appears to have been accentuated by the original owner with white blanco, a common practice. In good overall condition. Worn by 8th Corps until 1943 and South Western District thereafter. Worn in facing pairs.

Some rubbing to the detail on the highpoints of the crown and the tip of the garter otherwise in good condition. A portcullis with chains surmounted by a ducal crown Arms of the Duke of Beaufort.
