Crowned curled bugle horn set on laurel wreath with 106 to voided centre above “Bombay Light Infantry”. Reverse with original brass loops, East and West. Correct colour, die stamped, brass loops and in the right place, an original and scarce badge. Became the 2nd Battalion The Durham Light Infantry in 1881.

Die stamped in bronzed gilding metal, correctly and contemporaneously painted black as was often the case with other ranks of this volunteer battalion. With three original and long dark toned lugs to the reverse with no damage or repairs. Circa 10cm tall and 6.8cm tall.

Col D Wood No 114 refers (in which he also comments on the correctness of the black painted finish).

1st ( Tynemouth ) Corps Northumberland Rifle Volunteers Shoulder Belt Plate


Worn by officers and sergeants only from 1859 to 1862 when the corps was disbanded. Three original screw posts to the reverse. Originally silver plated but this has been worn away and detail to the three crowns in the centre has been polished. As a result it looks more brassy than perhaps it should, but scarce and in good condition otherwise. Circa 88mm tall and 64mm wide.
