As well as the 1914 Christmas Gift Box, another Royal gift distributed to the BEF and Naval Forces on Christmas Day was a sepia coloured postcard. Postcard in very good condition with pencil comments to reverse.

Awarded the RNLI's gold medal in 1916 and two silver medals in 1913 and 1914 respectively for daring and dramtic rescues including saving 50 crew from the stricken war service hospital ship HMHS Rohilla ( British India Steam Navigation Company). WW1 Bombardment of the Hartlepools 6th December 1914 Damage to Moor Terrace plus trench manned by the Royal Engineers

Postally unused with minor corner wear. Evidence of having been removed from an album. Contemporary hand to the reverse identifies the largest house in the image as being called Greencliffe, which was occupied by army officer's and the sandbag wall below was a trench manned by the Royal Engineers. Legitimate military targets after all it would appear!

Royal Munster Fusiliers Cigarette Card Embroidered Silk by E. & W. Anstie

These attractive silks were issued by the tobacco company E.& W. Anstie in WW1, between 1914 and 1916. There were 86 different designs in the Regimental Badge series, of which this is one. Unlike most other silk issuers of the time Anstie wove rather than printed the silk. All Anstie silks were anonymous with no makers marks but are very disguingishable by the woven patterns.

Postally unused, gloss finish and blank reverse. An amazingly crisp original portrait with a very clear image of his wolseley sun helmet and pagri flash " 5 / Hants ", colour sergeant sash, pioneer crossed axes above sergeant chevrons to right arm, and his IGS medal ribbon, which dates the photo nicely to later in 1919.

Post WW1 Real Postcard - York & Lancaster Regiment in tropical whites playing the Battalion from Church

An interesting picture, Postally unused but identified on reverse in two separate hands. Some corner wear to three corners and a small crease in top right corner, otherwise a good colonial image of the regiment headed by the band on the march in tropical climes, which by the looks of the background is in Africa.
