A rare two part '44' and 'Royal Marines' red on blue embroidered cash tapes style shoulder title, removed from uniform (missing the final 'Commando' three part piece strip). '44' in good condition. 'Royal Marines' edges have some ragging and a bit of damage.

44 RM Commando was formed in mid 1943 and served in the Far East.

In very good unworn condition. Worn on battledress on both arms by free forces troops of this nationality of whom about 4,000 were evacuated to Liverpool from France in 1940 and they formed their own brigade, fighting with distinction throughout the war.

Not a matched pair. Two original lugs to the reverse of each. In good condition, with some squeezing to the loops on one of them and slight colour difference between the two of them to front. Pre 1902. Scarce.

Chruchill notes that the bandsmen of the 62nd Foot wore this badge 1873 - 1881 in honour of their service in the Mediterranean (No 1498 refers).  read more
