The R101 airship crashed in France during its maiden overseas voyage on 5 October 1930, killing 48 of the 54 people on board. This green cloth beret has the cap badge of 8th Battalion DLI mounted on the felt cloth diamond of the 6th Battalion. In 1967, following a national Defence Review, the last two DLI Territorial Battalions were combined to form the 6th/8th Battalion DLI, which became part of the Light Infantry's Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve.
