Victorian 24th Middlesex ( Post Office ) Rifle Volunteers blackened White Metal collar badge
Flat topped Victorian crown, die struck in white metal and then blackened with two original lugs to the reverse. The 24 polished through to white for contrast. Circa 3.6cm tall. In very good condition. See MHS Bulletin, May 1956 p89, for details.

Other Ranks Helmet Plate, worn c.1880-1881 only.
Die stamped in bronzed gilding metal, correctly and contemporaneously painted black as was often the case with other ranks of this volunteer battalion. With one original loop only, the other two have sadly been neatly removed, otherwise in very good condition. Circa 9.1cm tall and 6.6cm wide. With red felt backing.

A small badge, not to be confused with the collar badges of the unit which had the same central design but surrounded by laurel leaves (see Churchill No 542) which was worn in the forage / field service cap. Circa 3cms tall. In good condition with no damage and two original loops to the reverse. Scarce.

A fine and scarce silvered example, worn circa 1876 - 1883, with matching benchmarks to each piece. Plain ends but a highly decorative figure 10 to the centre.
Formed at Ulverston in 1859 and became the 1st Volunteer Battalion The King' s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment in 1883.

19 / VR / Middlesex one piece shoulder title (later 9th London Regiment)
The 27th St Giles and St George's Bloomsbury or GGB became the 19th Bloomsbury's in 1880 and was in 1908 amalgamated with the 1st Victoria Rifle Corps to be come the 9th London Regiment.
