Edwardian Real Postcard - Royal Engineers Officer living the Good Life

The epitome of peacetime soldering, at least if you were an officer. Comfy club chair, today's newspaper, soda syphon and pipe to hand, cigar box below and dog at your feet. Where did we all go wrong! Postally used 1904, message to reverse. Some minor corner wear, but otherwise in very good condition.

Pre WW1 Patriotic Coloured Art Card by Raphael Tuck - What are you doing to guard the homes of England?

A stirring image of volunteers from the Napoleonic times to the Volunteers of 1860s and beyond, cajoling an idle gentleman of means ( or a rake!) to join the territorial / auxiliary forces. References to a quote from George V so this dates to 1912 - 1914 era. The poem on the reverse makes interesting reading. A thick card in good condition. Postally unused but has a contemporary message on the reverse. Very good condition. Printed in Nottingham, which is still the city which houses the HQ of the Boots Corporation. Scarce.

Pre WW1 Original Postcard of Rifle Regiment Territorial Cyclist Despatch Riders

Postally unused from the Bill Hopkins postcard collection. Close of up of Cap badges show these to be crowned Maltese crosses. Taken of despatch riders with the cycles and rifles under or "Bivvy". Taken at Crowborough in 1911. no doubt the annual territorial camp. Scarce image. Card in good condition.

WW1 Photo of Private Soldier Foreign Service Dress and Wolseley Helmet with Regimental Flash ( Suffolk Regiment ?)

Postally unused, matt finish, name Mrs E Harden to reverse. In very good condition. Crisp image, clothes equally crisp suggesting this was taken before departing overseas. Wolseley Helmet has large regimental flash visible to side. Looks like Suffolk Regiment to me but happy to be corrected. 1st Battalion went to Egypt in 1915 having had a very hard time of it at Ypres.

Pre WW1 Group Photograph of Royal Engineers with 1878 Pattern Spiked Hemets, c1910 Chatham

Postally unused and in good condition (some minor staining to reverse). Taken in Chatham, Kent circa 1910. One older soldier wears a QSA and the younger man next to him is wearing a Royal Humane Society Medal on his right breast. A good image.

Royal Munster Fusiliers Cigarette Card Embroidered Silk by E. & W. Anstie

These attractive silks were issued by the tobacco company E.& W. Anstie in WW1, between 1914 and 1916. There were 86 different designs in the Regimental Badge series, of which this is one. Unlike most other silk issuers of the time Anstie wove rather than printed the silk. All Anstie silks were anonymous with no makers marks but are very disguingishable by the woven patterns.
