Flare Pistol / Gun - Relic Condition - RAF issue

An absolute monster in the hand and of considerable weight. The flare pistol was a feature of every day life in the trenches but this one looks larger than those found as issued to the British Army with a 1.5 inch muzzle. The Royal Crest with Queen Victoria Crown (QVC) within the Garter HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. 4 single retaining wires to the reverse (one of two pairs remaining on each securing point).
