Full size die struck yellow brass helmet plate badge and complete with all its fiddley bits, tail ends and horns and orbs etc., including a fully rotating riveted gun wheel. The only damage is missing one top loop and slight fracture to one of the remaining two loops but this is still functional, otherwise in very good condition. Circa 10.5cm tall. Pre 1902.

In 1888 they were split into three different units: the 1st Durham Engineer Volunteers at Jarrow, the Tyne Division RE (V), Submarine Miners HQ at North Shields, and at new 1st Newcastle-on-Tyne RE (V) HQ Newcastle.
