A scarce and well made, attractive theatre made small cast beret / collar badge to this colonial war raised unit which was formed in 1939 and took part in the first raid on El Wak on 18th June 1940 (Rosignoli, pages 32 and Plate 17 refer). South Africa Zulu War Period - Generic Natal Cavalry Volunteers Large Brass Pouch Badge, c1870s

Die cast brass badge with monogram NCV with a QVC crown above, and one screw post remaining with retaining nut. Owen (1st Edition) No 185 refers. There were a number of Natal irregular cavalry and mounted rifles at the time of the Zulu wars and it is presumed this is a generic issue for such corps, some of which were quite small. Circa 6cm tall and 7.5cm wide. Rare.

An empty metal cigarette tin, but still with its original cardboard insert and paper mesh cover. Painted silver with "NUWEJAAR. NEW YEAR. 1945" in red and black letters on the lid. Lid also bears an image of two heads and shows a Springbok in a large red "V". Inside is autographed by Isie K Smuts and says "welcome new year with peace"

2 KAR (2nd Nyasaland Battalion) Kings African Rifles Hallmarked Sterling Silver Officers Facing Pair of Collar Badges

A facing pair (slight colour / tone variation between the two so not an exact match). Each circa 3.2cm tall, both with silver lugs and maker marked JRG & S (JR Gaunt & Sons) and carry Birmingham hallmarks, one with letter G (1956) and the other K (1959). Sharp detail with no polishing. In very good condition. QEII crowns.
