Non Military Irish Piper's Baldrick Cross Belt Plate Badge
An Irish piper's cross belt plate (shoulder belt plate) manufactured or retailed by the famous military instrument makers and outfitters Potter's of London.
It comprises a prominent raised Gaelic / Irish Harp set against a recessed green cloth felt backing with corner embellishments comprising of four distinct cast copper shamrock overlays fixed to each corner of a rectangular Silverine marked plate. Any detail on the harp has been polished away. Some pitting and tarnishing to silverine finish to front. Of two part construction with 4 tabs to reverse for attachment to the piper's leather cross belt or Baldrick.
The absence of any crown strongly aligns it with post-independence Irish nationalist item or traditional civilian pipe band dress, possibly police.
Potter of London, is a renowned family of instrument makers and military tailors (such as Henry Potter & Co.) known for supplying drums, bugles, and full regimental dress insignia to the British Army.
"Silverine" is a historical trade name for a non-precious nickel silver alloy, meaning it does not contain real sterling silver. It is a durable white metal composite typically composed of roughly 50-60% copper, 20-45% nickel, and zinc or manganese.
