George III / Napoleonic Royal Bristol Volunteer Infantry Corps Officer's Silver Plated Coatee Button

Circa 21mm in diameter, flat button, but sadly missing its shank. Quite a lot of the silver plate to front remains. No maker's mark. Sold as seen, no returns on this item.

Central Shield: Emblazoned with the historic Arms of Bristol, which depicts a ship clearing a castle/tower. The prominent letters "B" and "V" flank the central crest, indicating Bristol Volunteers. Above the shield are distinctive crest symbols, including two arms holding scales and flintlock pistols.

The corps was raised on 23rd March 1797 and disbanded in 1814, and was quite a large affair on formation with circa 35 officers. The regiment's motto was "In Danger Ready".
