British Indian Army - Mid Victorian Bengal Native Infantry Large Cast Brass Badge - Pagri Fitting, pre 1885
A rare badge, large at circa 7cms tall with crossed Muskets with Flintlock mechanisms clearly visible (so an early design). Cast in brass, with an original long pin fitting and C clasp for wear on the pagri or turban.
There were many different regiments of Bengal Native Infantry, a lot of whom were disbanded or disarmed at the time of Indian Mutiny, but in the 1860s many of these were reformed. Any information welcome.
The title "Bengal Native Infantry" fell out of use in 1885 and the Bengal Infantry regiments ceased to exist when the three separate Presidency armies were absorbed into the British Indian Army in 1903.
