WW2 Indian Army - 1st Coorg Battalion - Wartime Raised Unit
A large well made theatre made cast brass example with two original loops. In very good condition.
Raised in 1942 from Southern India, the Coorgs were recruited to form a garrison battalion as the newly raised 1st Coorg Battalion. Like the 71st Coorg Rifles before it, the new battalion had a badge incorporating crossed Coorg knives (PEECHAEKATHI). In 1946 it was converted to the 37 (Coorg) Anti-Tank Regiment Unit of the Royal Indian Artillery.
