WW1 Durham City Police Special Constable Constabulary Medal

A small bronze medal on its original ribbon with original top bar and original pin fitting, named to recipient on reverse in recognition of services in the Great War. Some wear to ribbon and medal a little bit grubby to reverse.

These were awarded to the Special Constables of Durham City. This was a very small force. The rear of the medal has the officer's name 'J. T. Neasham'. Top bar has the words 'Durham City Special Constable', the front has the Durham City Coat of Arms. The medals have been seen as single issue, also with the Special Constable 'For Faithful Service in the Special Constabulary' which was awarded from August 1919, and also with WW1 medals. Worthy of further research. Rare.

See my item 64737 for the lapel badge worn by this small force. Not to be confused with County Durham issues.
