Edwardian / Early WW1 Ayrshire Yeomanry Gilding Metal Cap Badge

A die struck badge in gilding metal, with a long original slider (much service wear evident) and is based on the arms of the Earl of Carrick, a lion's head, with eagles wings, known within the Regiment as the Griffin. This badge was worn up to circa 1916. This badge can be found on loops (Imperial Yeomanry issues), and post circa 1910 with a vertical shank / slider. There are three different die patterns of this earlier badge, and this is one of those known variants.

K&K Vol 1, No 1310 refers.
