WW1 Canada - 225th (Kootenay) Battalion CEF Collar Badge
Die struck dark copper maple leaf on the tip of which embossed on an upward arc C.E.F, below this the figure 225, the figures between the tips of the antlers of a stag's head and neck, face on, over the centre of the leaf, looping from tip to tip of the central lobes of the leaf and going behind the stag's head, a scroll bearing left and right respectively KOOTENAY / BATTALION, below the stag's neck on a downward scroll CANADA. Reverse embossed O.B. ALLAN. Pair of original double fixing blades / tangs to each side, pointing upwards. Circa 38mm tall. In very good condition.
The Battalion was raised in British Columbia with mobilization headquarters at Fernie, British Columbia under the authority of G.O. 69, July 15, 1916. The Battalion sailed January 25, 1917 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel J. Mackay with a strength of 20 officers and 427 other ranks. In England, the Battalion was absorbed into the 1st Reserve Battalion. It was disbanded on September 15, 1920.
