Georgian Napoleonic Caribbean West Indies - Royal West India Rangers Officers Gilt Tunic Button
Circa 19.5mm in diameter, open backed gilt button with a fixed shank. Maker marked C. Jennens, London with the PoW feathers. Crown in the title, superb condition with gilt bright. Worn circa 1806 - 1815. Battle honours Guadeloupe 1810 and 1815 (where the last fight was fought against Napoleon's troops).
In October, 1806, the Royal African Corps was divided into two regiments, one of which was styled the Royal West India Rangers, whilst the other retained the name of the Royal African Corps. The former of these two regiments was stationed in the West Indies, and the latter in Africa, both corps continuing to be recruited as before from pardoned deserters and men from the hulks.
