British India - South Waziristan Scouts Silver Plated Cap Badge, circa 1922
An attractive badge, cast and silver plated with two original loops to the reverse. It depicts the head of an urial ram, a wild sheep of Western Asia with the scroll below bearing the unit title, surmounted by a King's crown. Circa 4.2cms tall. (interestingly, the badge looks like a frog when viewed from the rear!).
The South Waziristan Scouts, formerly the South Waziristan Militia, was a paramilitary unit which formed part of British India's Frontier Corps. Other units included the Chitral Scouts, the Gilgit Scouts and the Kurram and Zhob Militias.
