Indian Army - 16th Punjab Regiment White Metal Cap / Collar Badge

A small white metal finely cast theatre-made badge in the form of a crowned Maltese cross, behind which is a Muslim crescent, bearing a Sikh quoit with ‘16’ to centre. “PUNJAB REGIMENT” below with two original copper loops to the reverse. Circa 35mm tall, believe that this size was worn both as a cap and a collar badge from 1922 - 1956.

The 16th Punjab Regiment was a regiment of the British Indian Army from 1922 to 1947. It was transferred to Pakistan Army on Partition of India in 1947. In 1956, the regiment was amalgamated with other regiments to form The Punjab Regiment.

See my item 68125 for the larger helmet pagri badge which is shown against this item in the final photo but is for sale elsewhere.
