Hong Kong Coronation Medal 1902
A scarce original Hong Kong Coronation Medal 1902, in bronze, with the correct white metal small suspension ring. Whilst no official ribbon was issued for this medal, an old length of patriotic ribbon has been added (stiffened with card inner). Issued to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII (1841–1910) and Queen Alexandra (1844-1925).
Obverse: jugate busts of Edward and Alexandra right, Reverse: view of the peak from Kowloon, HONG KONG, TO COMMEMORATE THE CORONATION OF THEIR MAJESTIES THE KING & QUEEN in outer margin, SIR HENRY A. BLAKE. G.C.M.G. GOVERNOR within, date below, circa 38mm in diameter. Condition: Good Very Fine (some odd and small / minor black printer's ink stains to obverse and rim).
Issued to all British and Indian officers and other ranks serving in the colony as well as local police. Some 6,000 medals were produced by Edmonds & Son, London.
