A scarce lapel button in very good condition for age and with no damage to enamel. A crowned 'pear -shaped' example, blue enamel title to border, the centre depicting the old Welsh Town Arms, a golden eagle surmounting a shield bearing three lion in pale on red enamel ground. Original horseshoe fitting with registered design number 638232 to reverse (which dates it to 1914) and maker marked Thomas Fattorini, Bolton. Some staining and dulling to gilt and a bit of damage to one tang on end of horseshoe fitting otherwise in good overall condition.
The spelling of Carnarvonshire county was formally renamed Caernarvonshire on 1 July 1926.
