1st/7th Gurkha Rifles - Dashera Invitation Card to Headcutting of Buffaloes and Goats Sacrificial Ceremony, 1949

A scarce and revealing invitation for those who were unaware of this Gurkha custom, a bit gruesome, but tradition is tradition! Subedar Major Rukman Limbu was awarded the MBE in 1954. A copy of his recommendation for this Honour will be included with the card. The card is in good condition for age and not something you come across every day!

Dashain is a 15-day Nepalese Hindu national and religious festival, which commemorates the victories of the goddess Durga over the demon Mahisasur. Goddess Durga is worshiped throughout Nepal as the divine mother goddess. Animal sacrifice is part of the rituals of this festival.
