WW1 British War Medal 1914- 1918 - 2nd Battalion / 7th Gurkha Rifles - Rai - PoW?

Correctly impressed to:

"2447 Rfn. Tulman Rai, 2-7 G.R."

Short length of original ribbon in as found condition, medal is GVF, with a couple of slight edge knocks.

During the First World War (1914-18), the 2nd Battalion helped defend the Suez Canal in Egypt before deploying to Mesopotamia (now Iraq), where it was forced to surrender to the Ottoman army at Kut-al-Amara in 1916. So this is possibly a Prisoner of War medal, any information in this regard most welcome.
