WW2 Pair of War Medals - Named to a Chindit - 2nd Battalion The Border Regiment

Neatly engraved naming in capitals, exactly the same on on both the War Medal and Defence Medal, as follows:

"14991957 Pte S E Duff, 2 Bn Border Regt"

Both with a short length of replacement ribbon for display purposes. Medals in good overall condition with a few edge bruises to the War Medal.

The 2nd Battalion was serving in British India on the outbreak of war. In 1942, it moved to Ceylon and later took part in the Burma Campaign from 1944 onward with the 100th Indian Infantry Brigade, part of 20th Indian Infantry Division. In April 1945, the battalion was transferred to the 36th British Infantry Division, which was previously an Indian Army formation, and became a Reconnaissance Regiment for the division.

Some time ago, Spink sold this group as a trio and it included a Burma Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, all contemporarily engraved '14991957 Pte. S. E. Duff. 2Bn. Border Regt', the Burma Star additionally engraved '20 Indian Div', but some numpty has split this off. Still it is good to know that a Burma star can be added to recomplete it.
