Pre WW1 Motor Volunteer Corps (MVC) Chauffeur's White Metal Large Pattern Button

A rare chauffeur's white metal button, circa 24mm in diameter with a fixed shank and blank reverse. In superb condition.

The Motor Volunteer Corps existed for 3 March 1903 until it was officially disbanded on the 26th July 1906.

Their Latin motto "Subito" means "Suddenly". The corps was a small unit of "gentlemen-motorist" owner volunteers and their chauffeurs who provided transport for General Officers, their staff and umpires on manoeuvres, etc. The corps high point was the 1905 Royal Review at Holyrood, Scotland, where the ten car Scottish section took part.

There is an excellent article on this unusual unit in 'The Armourer' magazine, August 2019.

See my 64621 for the officer's pattern button.
