Hawke Term Group Photo, Midshipmen Royal Naval College RNC Osborne Sept 1918 - April 1920
An impressive large and scarce original black and white mounted photograph with names of all the officer cadets or midshipmen below including their instructors and senior officers, taken by a Cowes (Isle of Wight) photographer. In good overall condition, the mount has been cut down, no doubt to fit in a frame, and there are a few fox mark spots to the top right of the image, blank reverse. Many of those named went on to have distinguished careers, some achieving Flag rank as Admirals in the Royal Navy especially in WW2 and thereafter. A few sadly were to die during WW2 too. I did some basic research, but will not spoil your fun!
The Royal Naval College Osborne - Founded in 1903, Osborne occupied a proportion of the Royal Estate at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. It housed Fisher-Selborne Scheme cadets for the first two years of their education. Plagued by poor health, and with the buildings in poor condition, Osborne was
closed in 1921.
Circa 35cms wide and 30cms tall. Please note on account of the size will only post to a UK address.
