6th/8th (TAVR) Battalion Durham Light Infantry (DLI) Officer's Service Dress Beret, 1967-68 only

This green cloth beret has the cap badge of 8th Battalion DLI mounted on the felt cloth diamond of the 6th Battalion. In 1967, following a national Defence Review, the last two DLI Territorial Battalions were combined to form the 6th/8th Battalion DLI, which became part of the Light Infantry's Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve. Only one year later in 1968, this battalion was disbanded. Before they closed the museum a similar beret was on display (DLI Museum Acc No 1077).

The beret has seen some service wear, is stamped WD Arrow 1967. As this pattern of beret was worn by all ranks, the slot for a slider has been sewn over with patch and the badge is secured by lugs with a brass backing plate and cotter in. The beret is in good clean condition, the odd mark but no moth. The badge is the officer's pattern in die cast silver plate with two original long silvered loops to the reverse (one leg of one loop slightly lifted from mouth of bugle but still strong and functional) . Rare.
