A white metal die struck EIIR crowned laurel spray containing a Maltese cross in the centre having crossed Kukri knives and number 7, around the edge ‘GURKHA RIFLES’. Reverse with a broad vertical pin and hook fixing (C clasp is a bit weak /chewed looking but functional). Same pattern as worn by officer's as a Shoulder Belt Plate (7GR A2), also fitted to a backing plate but with a strong vertical pin fitting making this a piper's baldric badge.
"Insignia of the 7th Duke of Edinburgh's Own Gurkha Rifles" published by the Gurkha Museum, Figure 7GR A2 refers.
