WW2 Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers Theatre Made Cast Badge - SD&A Co 1941
A scarce theatre made cast in two parts with wire attachments and original slider maker marked S.D.A. & Co. 41 (the latter presumably for 1941, as some Indian firms used the last two digits of the year when marking their sliders). In very good condition. The only other example I have seen of this badge maker marked in this fashion was missing its St George's flag. Nicely detailed for a sand cast badge. In good condition.
The 1st Battalion (part of the Regular Army) was stationed in British India on the outbreak of WW2. It spent the entire war there, fighting in the early stages of the Burma campaign. In 1942 the battalion was flown to Burma to help stem the Japanese advance, and in 1943 took part in the operations in the Arakan peninsular with the 48th Indian Infantry Brigade, part of the 14th Indian Infantry Division.
