Northumberland Fusiliers (NF) Officer's Full Dress Gilt & Silver Plate Cap Badge

A stunning example of this cap badge, a grenade in gilded die cast bronze of two part construction with flames to 19 points. Mounted on silver plate on the ball is St George facing left within a title circle NORTHUMBERLAND / FUSILIERS. Circa 41mm tall and 34mm wide across the flames. Worn on both the forage and SD caps. This pattern worn circa 1897 - 1936. Maker marked JR Gaunt London to reverse of the flames.

This particular example was worn in the peaked cap in the later part of this period as evidenced by the small slider instead of loops. Col Wood confirms this on page 73 (note 12). The slider fitted into a small frog stitched to the outside of the cap. This is illustrated as item 176A for the post 1936 pattern but was also relevant to this item. See my final photo.
