A scarce original circa 1940 'Free Czech Army badge'; oxidised sliver plated example (mainly worn off to front), Upper part of badge formed by shield with Czechoslovak state emblem (a lion with cross in shield to its side) topped by words "CZECHOSLOVAK ARMY", lower part by French style helmet with leaves behind. depicting an army tin helmet surmounted by a shield bearing the Coat of Arms of Czechoslovakia, a lion with cross in shield to its side. Good overall condition, complete with original vertical pin fittings. This is the solid backed variety which is impressed with maker's mark on lower part, "H.W.MILLER LTD. B'HAM.18". Circa

Manufactured in Britain at some time after the arrival of the Czechoslovak soldiers in July 1940 and issued in commemoration of the Czechoslovak Army in France (1939-40).
