Durham Light Infantry Soldiers Paperwork and Certificate of Service
A lot of paperwork relating to 4441332 William Hattam who enlisted in the DLI in the early 1922 until transferred to the Army Reserve in 1930. He retained the rank of Private throughout. Also included is his original Certified Copy of his Attestation, which confirms he was 18 (born 1903), by trade a Miner and from Whickham, nr Gateshead, his Second and Third Class Certificates of Education, his pocket sized New Testament annotated as his and given to him when Shanghai China in 1927 when serving with the 2nd Battalion together with a pass issued to him to attend the Union Jack Club in Shanghai and his trade as Signaller, and two Signaller assessment forms confirming his tests as a signaller (never seen these before) and issued when in India. Circa ten original photos in extremely poor condition of the Durhams in India and local scenes, and two paybooks, one which confirms his service in India and China. An interesting interwar group of paperwork to a regular soldier in the 2nd Battalion. Not sure if he saw WW2 service but he would have been within the age limit.
A scarce record of a 2nd Battalion soldier who saw service in India and China in the interwar years.
