WW1 1914 Leeds Special Constable Constabulary Senior Police Officer Mufti Gilt & Enamel Lapel Buttonhole Badge with three enamel roses below

A rare badge with additional scroll added with tabs with three white enamel roses mounted on a blue enamel ground. Some dulling to gilt from service wear but with no enamel damage. Circa 4.4cms tall and with original buttonhole fixing to reverse.

The book referred to below states that the roses indicated rank, but makes no mention of what these might be. However, three roses signified Superintendent in the regular police or possibly Commander in the case of the Special Constabulary (thanks to Dave C for the information in this regard).

Wilkinson & Cowdell 'Special Constabulary Insignia of England & Wales' (2nd Edn) pp70-71, Fig 4 refers.
