WW1 1915 British Army Officer Mark V Pocket Compass

A scarce and good early example of the pocket watch style compass engraved "Anglo Swiss Association London V 41169, 1915" along with the military arrow showing it to have been issued into service, mounted in a full hunter case which is in excellent dent free condition which is nickel plated on the inside and polished brass on the outside (possibly all once nickel plated but polished back to the brass). The distinctive back and white aluminum dial which has all its original markings intact (with North indicated by a star) pivots freely on a gemstone bearing and is set under a clean bevelled crystal glass. It measures 45mm in diameter, not including the bow.

This type of compass was standard issue in the British army at the start of WW1, gradually being replaced by the various models of the Verner’s Pattern Prismatic Service Compass as the war progressed.

Although fully functional please note this item is sold as a historical collectors item and is not intended for use.
