56th Regiment of Foot (West Essex Regiment) Officer's Glengarry Badge
Worn from circa 1874 - 1881, a two-part riveted construction early glengarry with the castle in silver plate and the garter in gilt. Some dulling to gilt but detail is sharp. Original stout and functional pin fitting and C clasp to reverse. Circa 4.2cms wide and 5cms tall. A rare item.
The 56th of Foot was raised in 1755 and saw service in the West Indies, Gibraltar, Ireland, Mauritius, the Crimea and India.
It was amalgamated with the 44th of Foot in July 1881, forming the 2nd Battalion of the Essex Regiment.
