Comrades In Captivity; a (WW1) record of life in seven German prison camps - Famous English Poet and Officer in the 5th Glosters

A rare hardcover first edition first published in 1920 by London, Sidgwick and Jackson. Octavo, 319 pages with 8 illustrations (by C.E.B. Bernard), several sketches, a map and a plan. Light grey cloth lightly rubbed and creased, two pages with some foxing marks (see photo of the illustration of Milkwaukee Bill"), otherwise a very good copy.

Frederick William Harvey (1888-1957), English poet and officer in the 5th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment; 'he was captured on 17 August 1916 and spent the remainder of the war in prisoner-of-war camps. His first volume of poems, "A Gloucestershire Lad", was published shortly after his capture. He wrote more poetry while imprisoned and his poems were sent back to England for publication, his second collection "Gloucestershire Friends" appearing in 1917' (The War Poets Association website).
