Northumberland Fusiliers 2nd / 3rd Volunteer Battalion Officers Silver Plated Bearskin Grenade

Of two part construction with two original dark toned loops to the reverse. Central long loop clipped off as often found. The silver plate is good but there is a small band of underlying brass across the neck, possibly where a retaining strap was applied on display or when first plated. not particularly obvious from the front. Otherwise a scarce badge in very good condition.

This is the first pattern with a motto strap as opposed to the later circle in place of the strap. Worn circa 1886 - 1904 by officers of the 2ne and 3rd Volunteer Battalions of the Northumberland Fusiliers.

Col D R Wood (2nd Edn) No 74 refers.
