"The Mad Recce" by Frank Knappett (1984) - The story of the 2nd Derbyshire Yeomanry (Armoured Car Reconnaissance Regiment during WW2)
A paper back book signed by the author in reasonable read second hand condition, 133pp, some black and white photos also. This records one man's story of two major campaigns, the Western Desert and the Second Front with this Yeomanry unit attached to the 51st Highland Division. A good tight clean copy with wear and some creasing to covers otherwise no damage or annotations. Scarce book.
After five years fighting, through North Africa and then up the beaches of Normandy on D Day to VE day, the author was lucky to come through unscathed. He concludes "we always maintained we would not have the job of the infantry for all the tea in China, while the tough jocks of the 51st Highland Division swore that they wouldn't have our job for all the johnnie Walker in Scotland. So perhaps it was not for nothing that they nicknamed their own Reconnaissance Regiment, the 2nd Derbyshire Yeomanry, 'The Mad Recce'."
