Hampshire Regiment Victorian Other Ranks Field Service Cap Badge
A small brass cap badge with two original loops to the reverse, this pattern is not a collar badge but the regiment's first field-service cap badge worn in the1890s after the change from glengarry to field service. One of the few regiments that actually produced a badge specifically for this purpose, most used a collar dog. A Tiger on a more rounded ground than found on the collar badge of the period (see Churchill No 1000). Only found in this pattern facing to the left (that is towards the front of the FSC). Also this is not a cutdown tiger from the HPC as noted recently in a thread on the BMBF. Rubbing and polishing to body of tiger and one lug as sprung open but still functional. Scarce.
Churchill p161 and no 1001 refers.
