WW2 East African Reconnaissance Squadron EARS Cast Brass Silvered Collar Badge
A scarce and well made, attractive theatre made small cast beret / collar badge to this colonial war raised unit which was formed in 1939 and took part in the first raid on El Wak on 18th June 1940 (Rosignoli, pages 32 and Plate 17 refer). Most of the East African badges were cast and made in Nairobi.
The (EARS) East African Reconnaissance Squadron was part of the East African Armoured Corps that was re-named Kenya Armoured Car Regiment, and then re-named again as the East African Reconnaissance Regiment.
In good condition, with two original integral loops to the reverse. Circa 2.5cms tall and 3cms wide. Motto is Semper Vigilans (always vigilant). Worn 1940 - 1942 only.
