WW2 Royal Navy - Woven Cloth Shoulder Title

In good condition (a little bit wrinkled), hessian backed. Authorised for wear on battledress in June 1941, replaced with a printed version in April 1943. initially worn by RN Beachmasters and with a separate supplementary Commando title by RN Commando units on battledress. Rare.

Removed from uniform. The paper packing cloth is unusual in that it reveals the makers name, 'Gwendyr Make' which suggests a Welsh manufacturer. A search on line shows they made items high quality embroidered items for the US forces stationed in the UK during WW2 and well as items for the Royal Navy and RAF both during and after WW2. WW2 81st West African Division Embroidered Cloth Formation Sign Patch Flash Designation Badge - Burma

Removed from uniform, many loose black threads around the edges, easily removed, depicting a black to tarantula spider on a now grubby yellow background. So, unlike many of the unissued ones on many sites, this one has seen some real service.

Worn in facing pairs, this one with the ship facing to the right. Removed from uniform, a bit grubby and stained with evidence of having some rust marks from a drawing pin at some point and a couple of small pinprick holes. This badge was made by “Calico Printers”.
