New Zealand - 8th (South Canterbury) Mounted Rifles Gilding Metal Cap Badge - Gaunt tablet

Brass gilding metal cap badge with 2 original loops and a JR Gaunt London maker's tablet (slightly lifting and truncated) to the reverse. Formed 1911. Saw action in Gallipoli, Sinai and Palestine 1916-1919. Amalgamated with the 1st Mounted Rifles (Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry) in 1921.

At circa 42mm tall and 63mm wide this is the smaller pattern shown in Oldham.
