WW2 D Day Landings - Royal Observer Corps (ROC) Printed Seaborne Shoulder Title
A scarce printed shoulder title to members of the Royal Observer Corps serving aboard ships, being a convex arc of black "waterproof" cotton material with an internal border containing SEABORNE, all printed in light blue. Removed from uniform otherwise in good condition.
In 1944 specially recruited observers from the Corps went in on D Day on British landing ships, Infantry and Motor Transport ships wearing this title. To cover legal and admin they enlisted in the Royal Navy for one month with an option to serve a second. This was done because they were civilians. They had the rank of Petty Officer and were paid a special rate of £1 a day.
