WW1 Lancashire And Yorkshire Railway War Service Enamel and Gilt Brass Buttonhole Lapel Badge
A scarce original First World War period gilt brass and enamel badge, "Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway" blue enamel title surround, Crowned "Railway Service" to the centre on white enamel ground, the reverse impressed with maker's details "Thomas Fattorini, Bolton", stamped with official issue number "B.14803" and design registration number "REG.638232" (1914). In good condition, retaining original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel but evidence of surface scratches from wear and one slightly heavier scratch; gilt a bit worn but finish still relatively bright. Circa 28mm in diameter.
The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (L&YR) was a major British railway company prior to 1923. It amalgamated with the London and North Western Railway on 1 January 1922. One year later, the merged company became the largest constituent of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway.
