Portrait Photos of Sergeant Major James Francis Hampton, Royal Army Medical Corps ( RAMC) - Served Boer War and all of WW1 - awarded MSM
A greatVictorian / WW1 grouping this - two original large card mounted portraits taken by a Hampshire photographer, and each annotated to the reverse as being of this soldier. He is wearing this Boer War medals. His WW1 paybook accompanies the lot. This confirms he enlisted in 1896 and served throughout WW1, embarking overseas 19th February 1915 and the final entry confirms his entitlement to four blue overseas service chevrons for 4 years service. Great clear images with lots of insignia.
His WW1 MICs (3 different ones to be supplied) confirm his entitlement to the 1914-15 star (entered France 21 February 1915), a BWM and VM and also a Meritorious Service Medal (MSM), as this confirms his service with 24th General Hospital and the award was promulgated in the 'Peace Gazette' (5th June 1919 and confirms he was from Calstock (Cornwall)) 'in recognition of valuable services rendered with the Armies in France and Flanders'. His hospital was located at Etaples from June 1915 until November 1919.
Worthy of further research and reuniting with his seven medals, which were sold at DNW as lot 49 on the 6th December 2006 as follows:
