WW1 Silver War Badge (SWB) to Lewis Clifford Cuthbert Wood(s),13th Battery, 5th London Brigade Royal Field Artillery (RFA)
An unusual double issue SWB!
This recipient was issued with two SWBs, this one numbered '5125', a very early issue, and a later issue '505882'
A first pattern SWB officially impressed 5125 was awarded to L.C.C. Woods or Wood, London Brigade RFA. An unmarked silver circlet inscribed 'For King And Empire Services Rendered' bearing crowned 'GRI' Imperial Cypher to voided centre. In very good condition, dark toned, complete with original pin fittings (east -west). Circa 32mm in diameter. Copy of CD version of SWB roll entry for both issues and both copies of WW1 Medal Index Card (MIC) to be supplied.
1207 Gunner L.C.C. Wood (or Woods depending on which record one is looking at), was a pre-war territorial who served overseas and was entitled to a1914-15 Trio (went to France 15th March 1915. He enlisted in 1913 and was discharged 7th April 1916 on account of wounds, Age not given. He was issued with a duplicate badge and certificate in 1923 for sickness and wounds. The first badge having been issued in 1916.
Approximately 1,150,000 badges were issued to all services, which had to be claimed and then approved. The first pattern SWB was issued between September 1916 and March 1918, and these were of a better quality than most later stampings. Around 335,000 of these early badges were issued to all services.
