2 Medical Commando Embroidered White on Black Felt Cloth Shoulder Title

In unissued condition. The question of medical support for Commando troops was first raised in April 1944 when the formation of four specialised ‘Medical Commandos’ each of 9 officers and 136 ORs was proposed.

Orders issued on 24th June 1945 to raise No 1 Medical Commando instructed that 1st Light Field Ambulance, RAMC, recently returned from Italy, would become 1st Medical Commando on 1st August, the formation of No 2 Medical Commando by the conversion of 6th Light Field Ambulance, RAMC to support 3rd Commando Brigade in Burma following thereafter. With mobilisation cancelled three days after Japan surrendered in August 1945 these Commandos had been disbanded by December that year. Shoulder titles were released to the surplus market in the 1950s and this explains why they are found in this condition.
